Truly Truthful-- Scope ART ASIA Miami

ART ASIA Miami 09 (December 2-6, 2009) is the most important art fair dedicated to showcasing the best of Asian contemporary art in North America. As a dominating force within the Asian contemporary art world, ART ASIA is also a major contributor to the global art market. ART ASIA Miami is pleased to announce its continuing commitment to supporting educational programs and has appointed independent curator Leeza Ahmady to launch an entirely new curatorial platform. The landmark exhibition titled Truly Truthful showcases internationally recognized artists whose works contest categorical presentations of truth and reality in the world. The exhibition presents some of the best artists working both inside and outside of Asia; they challenge presentations of truth as superlative, established, rigid, objective, and specific.

ART ASIA’s new initiative will give younger galleries the opportunity to debut on international platforms while continuing to invite leading Asian contemporary galleries to participate in the world-class fair. Using clever methods such as: documentary footage, staged events, real and fictive characters, renewal of age-old crafts, and construction of new myths in a variety of media (painting, installation, video, photography and sculpture), the artists in Truly Truthful engage viewers to ponder established notions about Asian contemporary art, and other so-called truths in relationship to aesthetics, consumerism, colonialism, societal stagnations, individual and collective inertia, and human consciousness.

In 2008, ART ASIA’s inaugural Miami fair drew over 30,000 visitors that included collectors, art advisory firms, museum groups, and media sources. Its Preview Night Party at the Mandarin Oriental attracted over 1200 VIP clients and journalists, setting the tone for its successful 5-day run.

Of the 45 participating galleries from over 17 countries in ART ASIA Miami 08, several reported high priced sales and many reported sales to mid-range and emerging collectors. Most importantly, almost all galleries commented on strong follow-up sales to new clients after the fair.

Due to the overwhelming success of Miami 08, ART ASIA Miami 09 will increase the number of participating galleries and the quality of the curatorial and special programming.
